situations.
(See "Mom of the Week") With the help of these women
and many professionals, SingleRose.com - Resource for Single Mothers strives to
make the lives of single mothers and their children a little easier.
SingleRose.com
was started with the December 1995 issue. The idea for the publication came to
me one night as I was reading an article in one of the major parenting
publications titled "Mommy Burnout." The article was the story of one woman who
had decided to quit her job and stay home. She complained of being constantly
tired and burned-out from trying to work her 9 to 5 job, take care of her
children and household and still make her man happy. She complained of being
physically and mentally exhausted and not being able to handle so many
responsibilities. She experienced fatigue, headaches, nervousness, anxiety, lack
of sleep, etc. As a single parent I’m sure you all know exactly how this feels,
but without the luxury or the option of quitting your job. The article further
listed possible ways that "mothers" might get some "extra time" for themselves
by having their husbands help out more with the kids and household chores. Being
a single parent, this information was completely useless; not to mention
irritating. I feel the same symptoms of this woman every day while trying to
juggle all of the responsibilities that go along with the enormous job I have of
raising my two children alone. I’m sure many of you feel the same way. So...SingleRose.com,
Resource for Single Mothers was founded. I have been told time and again that
this publication is exactly what single mothers are looking for; practical
advice from someone who knows what it is like to be in this situation. It is
therapeutic for me and my children to tell other people our stories and to hear
from other families and tell their stories, too. It helps us all to know we are
not alone in our struggles.
About the Founder
Tammy
Jones and her two daughters (ages 6 months old and 3 years old) found themselves
alone in December 1991. Tammy’s husband announced he was in love with another
woman! Devastated by this and at the same time recovering from a difficult
pregnancy and subsequent botched-up hysterectomy, Tammy found herself unemployed
and alone with two very young children. "My oldest daughter was heart-broken.
She loved her Daddy dearly. In fact she hasn’t been quite the same since. We’ve
recovered, but it took a LONG time. We are a happy, loving family and we work
very hard to keep it that way. Both my daughters know the value of a family and
how important we are to each other. We’ve been faced with a number of challenges
and learned a lot! We tell other people our story because we know it helps them
too."
Since
beginning SingleRose.com, Tammy has appeared on TV in her home town of
Dallas/Fort Worth. She has been profiled in many newspapers and magazines across
the nation, including USA Today and Working Woman Magazine, Working Mother
Magazine and made guest appearances on radio talk shows around the country. She
is available for interviews or she can be hired to speak to your organization .
"It is my goal to reach as many single mothers as I can!"
