I have been laid off since Dec 08. I live with my father (pay rent) but get no further help from him. I have one child that is 10 years old with ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorder and several learning disabilities. I care for a boy that is 16 years old with ADHD and believed to also have ODD. His family does nothing for him and he has been in foster care. He actually lived behind us and started coming over when my father painted the house and he was a nice kid. He stuck around for dinner most nights and after meeting his family I see why. He has been living with me full time now for 2 years. I provide most of his care, his mother gets welfare for him but we only get about $60 a month in food stamps from her. I get about $100 for child support for my son. I was on food stamps myself but no longer am and have to reapply I can't reapply right now because they won't take their own copy of his birth certificate and I don't have it. I lost it and don't have the money to replace it. Plus it is Louisiana and I am in New York. I myself am agoraphobic which keeps me from doing a lot of stuff. I don't get SSI or anything because I haven't applied. I plan to but can't get over the anxiety long enough to apply. I did see a therapist for it but she was horrible and furthered my not trusting people.
